Slot games online: how reels, ways and free spins work

A slot is a grid of reels. You choose a stake, press spin, and the game pays when symbols line up in a winning pattern. Each spin is decided by a random number generator, so a slot has no memory of earlier spins.

Lines and ways

• Paylines: fixed paths across the reels, for example 20 lines. Symbols must land on one of them.
• Ways: any matching symbols on next-door reels, left to right, count. Games with "243 ways" or more work like this.
• Cluster or scatter pays: some games pay for groups of symbols anywhere on the grid.

The paytable inside every game shows its exact rules. Open it with the "i" or menu button.

Volatility

Volatility tells you how a slot pays. High volatility games have long dry spells and rare big hits. Low volatility games pay small amounts more often. Pick one that suits your budget, not the one with the biggest headline number.

Free spins and bonus buys

Most slots have a free spins round, usually started by scatter symbols. Some also sell a bonus buy: you pay many times your stake to go straight to the feature. Bonus buys cost a lot per try, so set a limit first.

Studios on our partner's list

UBET FUN's game list includes slots from PG Soft (for example Mahjong Ways and Treasures of Aztec), Pragmatic Play, Playtech, Microgaming, the Evolution group (NetEnt, Red Tiger, Nolimit City, Big Time Gaming), CQ9, FastSpin and DT.

Simple rules for slot play

• Decide your total budget and stake per spin before you start.
• Do not raise stakes to win back losses.
• Use the game's own autoplay or loss limits if it has them.
